Is Windscribe Leaking?

You think

"The firewall is on, so I’m fine."

The mirror

A firewall guards the tunnel. WebRTC and your timezone live in the browser.

Provider detection compares your exit network with the networks Windscribe is known to use. Windscribe may also rent servers elsewhere, so a real Windscribe connection can occasionally read as "a VPN, but not Windscribe". The test runs in your browser and asks a Cloudflare STUN server for your public address — exactly what any web page can do. We don't see, store or log the result.

Three checks run in your browser: IP masking, WebRTC and timezone. DNS has its own test.

About Windscribe

Windscribe is based in Canada. It states a no-logs policy. Its apps are open source. It supports the WireGuard protocol. These are the provider's public claims and basic facts, not a guarantee.

How to fix Windscribe leaks

Turn on the kill switch

In the Windscribe app's settings, enable the kill switch (or its equivalent) so traffic stops if the tunnel drops instead of falling back to your normal connection.

Free

Restrict WebRTC in your browser

Firefox: about:config → media.peerconnection.enabled → false. Brave: Settings → Privacy and security → WebRTC IP handling policy → "Disable non-proxied UDP".

Free

Reconnect, then re-test

Reconnect Windscribe, make sure it is the connection this browser uses, and run the test again. A VPN only counts if the test says so.

Questions about Windscribe

Is Windscribe leaking my IP address?

Run the test above to see your real result. Windscribe can only protect the traffic it carries; a WebRTC leak or a timezone mismatch happens in the browser, outside the VPN's control.

How does this page know I am on Windscribe?

This page compares the network your connection exits from (its ASN) with the networks Windscribe is known to use — 1 verified so far. Windscribe may also rent servers on other networks, so a genuine Windscribe connection can occasionally show up as "a VPN, but not Windscribe".

Does Windscribe prevent WebRTC leaks?

Whether WebRTC leaks depends on your browser, operating system and VPN app settings together, which is why this page tests the real result instead of assuming. Restricting WebRTC in the browser removes the question entirely.

Where is Windscribe based?

Windscribe is based in Canada. Jurisdiction affects legal requests to the provider; it has no effect on whether your browser leaks.
